HARUNA IDDRISU - EDUCATION ON EBOLA

The Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has urged Ghanaians to make a declaration of a zero tolerance for the Ebola disease. He further stated that, “we must be vigilant at our borders” in order to prevent infected persons from entering the country because “it took one person for Ebola to affect the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.


He made these statements at the Ghana International Press Centre during the launch of The Light Foundation in Accra, Osu. The Light Foundation organized an Ebola Education Campaign to commemorate its launch and to educate the general Public on the urgent measures the country needs to put in place in order to prevent the Ebola Disease into the country.
The Light Foundation (T.L.F) is a Non-Governmental Organization which came into existence in 2006. Its main focus is to provide a social plan as well as skills for the under privileged society especially in the Upper East and West regions of Ghana.
The theme for the occasion was, “Safeguarding Ghana against an EBOLA outbreak, our collective responsibility”. Also in attendance was a representative of the Chief Imam, Sheikh Unus Ousman, Hon. Alhassan Mumuni, MP for Salaga North and Sheikh Professor Bari, who also graced the occasion by accepting the position of the Chairperson.
According to the Programmes Co-ordinator, Prince M. Zakaria, the T.L.F Ebola campaign is focusing on high risk areas such as the regions closer to the borders of Ghana and also seeks to partner with organizations such as the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), TUC, Ghana Broadcasting Coporation, Daily Graphic as well as all media houses to augment Government’s support for more Biomedical suits. He also urged other supporting bodies to raise funds to help in the production of more Biomedical suits.
Hon. Haruna Iddrisu acknowledged the works of The Light Foundation adding that he had benefited from some of the infrastructure of The Light Foundation. He reiterated his statements saying, “lets remain vigilant, conscious and propagate the declaration of a zero tolerant Ebola in Ghana and on this note he declared The Light Foundation duly launched.
As part of the side attraction of the occasion was the free distribution of hand sanitizers to all those present at the occasion.
